Individuals and married couples are limited to oue homestead standard deduction. As the receipt of this
r��duction becomes more beneficial, there is more incentive than ever for homestead fraud. Homestead fraud
lauses higher tax bills for all; therefore, HEA 1344-2099 requires taxpayers �vho recei��e the homestead
standard deduction to verify that the�� are eligible to receive the benetit and to provide additiooal identif��ing
informatiou necessar}� to allow count}� goverument to better monitor homestead filings. This information
�vill be kept confidential and can only be accessed by authorized couuty officials. The Department of Local
Government Fivance will use this iuformation to create tools that will help county officials eliminate
homestead fraud.
