The Gibson County Board of Commissioners met in Special Session, Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at 6:30 PM at the Annex North Meeting Room.
Members Present:
Gerald Bledsoe, President, Bob Townsend, Commissioner Jim McDonald, County Attorney, Kay Vore, Administrative Assistant. Absent was Commissioner Alan Douglas. C.T. Montgomery was
also absent he was attending Auditors’ Conference.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited and led by Gerald Bledsoe.
President Bledsoe asked Dan Alvey, EMS Director if he
was ready to make a recommendation
on the Ambulance Bids that were received at the prior meeting. Mr. Alvey stated the bid from Wheel Coach( Fire Service Inc.) for $ 97,754.00 was the
only bid that met the specifications. Bob Townsend made a motion to accept the bid. Gerald Bledsoe seconded. Motion carried.
Todd Mosby, President and CEO of the Gibson County Economic
Development Corporation took the floor. He introduced Mike Tracey, General Manager of Vuteq Corporation and Gary Malone, Umbaugh & Associates. Mr. Mosby stated he was here on behalf
of Vuteq Corporation.
He said Gibson County has an opportunity to capture a $3.6 - $4.5 million investment in an expansion of Vuteq which would create 100-110 new jobs. Mr. Mosby asked
permission to submit to the Gibson County Redevelopment Commission a request for $ 800,000.00 from Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to assist in this expansion of Vuteq Corporation. Mr.
Mosby asked if they were any questions for either Mr. Malone or himself. Bruce Fisher said he would like to see more jobs created in the county in areas other than the automobile industry.
Mr. Mosby replied that the economy of Gibson County is quite diversified. This diversity occurs especially in the fields of energy, manufacturing, agriculture and education. Bob Townsend
made a motion to allow the request be presented to the Redevelopment Commission. Gerald Bledsoe seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Mr. Mosby introduced Mike Crabtree owner of Gibson
County Warehousing. Mr. Mosby
stated Gibson County has an opportunity to capture a $ 4.5 - $5.0 Million expansion of Gibson County Warehousing that would employ 60 -70 additional people
from our region. He asked for approval to go before go before the Redevelopment Commission to request the use of $1Million from TIF to assist in the construction of an additional 110,000
square feet to building # 9 at the Gibson County Warehousing Facility. Mr. Mosby asked for questions or comments. Bruce Fisher asked Mr. Malone, “What the projected cash balance was
for the TIF District?” Mr. Malone stated it was projected to be $1.4 Million by the end of 2012. He also stated that these two projects would probably require funds from next year’s
tax draw. Mr. Crabtree stated construction of the additional warehouse space should be completed by June or July 2013.
Bob Townsend made a motion to approve the request. Gerald Bledsoe
seconded. Motion carried.
