The Gibson County Council met in regular session on April 10, 2012, at 9:00 AM in the North
Annex Meeting Room.
Members Present: Jeremy Overton, President, LeAnn Smith, VP, D. Craig Pflug, Bill
McConnell, Tony Wolfe, George Ankenbrand and C.T. Montgomery, Auditor. William George
was absent.
The meeting was called to order and everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
George Ankenbrand made a motion to approve the March 13, 2012 minutes. LeAnn Smith
seconded the motion and the motion passed 5-0 with Tony Wolfe abstaining.
Department Reports:
EMS – Dan Alvey reported that he has had engine problems with two of his ambulances and one
is still not running.
Health Department – Jennifer Schatz provided her monthly report to the council.
County Extension – Cathy Boerste asked the council for approval to hire part time summer help.
The request was approved by the council.
Sheriff – George Ballard reported on what has been done on the 9-1-1 funding for the past month
and provided the council with his annual report.
Old Business:
Theisen Bowers and Associates, LLC, presented the county council with a claim for services in
the amount of $6,454.24. Craig Pflug made a motion to pay the bill from Rainy Day funds. The
motion was seconded by George Ankenbrand. The motion passed 6-0.
New Business:
Superior Court asked for an additional appropriation of $10,000 to 2505-03-03-07, A & D
Assessment Fees. Bill McConnell made a motion to approve the request. George Ankenbrand
seconded the motion and the motion passed 6-0.
Superior Court asked for permission to hire a part time person at the current $10 per hour rate.
The council gave their approval.
Circuit Court asked for an additional appropriation for $3,263.00 to 2004-04-42, Computers.
The council approved for an advertisement for the appropriation.
Sheriff George Ballard asked the council for permission to hire a new correctional officer, due to
one retiring. The council approved the request.
Sheriff Ballard also told the council that his department has totaled two cars recently and he
would like the insurance money to go into the 05-04-12 line, New Vehicles. The department will
be short two cars until the insurance settles. George Ankenbrand made a motion to approve the
request. LeAnn Smith seconded the motion and the motion passed 6-0.
Councilman Bill McConnell addressed the council concerning sanitary sewage needs in Gibson
County. In his remarks he states that “There are no easy solutions and now is the time to start
searching and researching for possible approaches to Gibson County’s present and future
problems.” He further states “Perhaps the Gibson County Redevelopment Commission, with
help from Gibson County Health Department and Gibson County Soil Conservation sources, can
find ways to help ease our existing problems and help ensure that future treatment for the
residential, commercial, and industrial expansion in Gibson County.”
George Ankenbrand made a motion to adjourn and was seconded by LeAnn Smith. Motion
passed 6-0.
