HomeMy WebLinkAbout7-21-2026 GC Council Budget MeetingGibson County Council 2027 Budget Meeting II July 21, 2026 Southwest Annex Council members present: • President Jeremy Overton • Vice President Derek McGraw • Council Member Jay Riley • Council Member Craig Schafer • Council Member Robert Schleter • Council Member Michael Stilwell • Council Member Tom Perry Also present were: • Auditor Mike Watkins • 1" Deputy Auditor Kristy York • 2nd Deputy Auditor Logan Vickers Pledge of Allegiance The Council reviewed the 2027 budget requests by department • General Fund Sheriff — The Council requested confirmation that the Sheriff's Department budgets include four Sergeant positions, two Captains positions, and ten Patrol Officers. The Council will remove the appropriations for overtime and pension since those appropriations are included in Fund 1170 (LIT Public Safety). • Fund 1170 LIT Public Safety - Council instructed staff to take Police Pension appropriation to $300,000; remove the Sheriff's Equipment appropriation, and eliminate the FICA/Medicare appropriation, as overtime expenses will be paid from the Sheriff's General Fund budget. • General Fund Jail - the Council removed the meals and Maintenance Technician appropriations out of this budget since it is included in Fund 1170 LIT Public Safety. • Commissioners — the Council requested that the new HR appropriation be removed. Logan Vickers suggested taking the unemployment appropriation up to $10,000. • EMA — the Council removed the appropriation for the Deputy Director/Flood Plain Administrator. • Animal Services — the Council reverted all appropriations back to the 2026 adopted appropriations. The Council directed the Auditor's Office to advertise the budgets as originally requested and incorporate the above revisions before final adoption.
